Lion's Paw sea shells are a strong heavy shell.  They are normally found down to a depth of 100 feet on the surface of the bottom of the ocean, almost always a rocky bottom.  They are found from the Carolina's to the Gulf of Mexico and down the Atlantic side of South America.
