Hermit Crabs: Natural sea sponges have been used by hermit crab keepers for many years. Hermit crabs can drink from a damp sponge and many will nibble, tear, and eat the sponge as well. A damp sponge can add moisture to the enclosure, and a sponge placed in a water dish provides a textured surface that helps a hermit crab climb in and out.
Sea sponges also provide an interesting natural texture for crabs to explore and interact with.
Keep Your Sponge Fresh: Natural sea sponge is an organic, porous material and should be cleaned regularly when used wet. We recommend thoroughly rinsing the sponge with dechlorinated water every 3–4 days. Replace the sponge when it becomes excessively soiled, deteriorates, or can no longer be cleaned effectively. Do not allow dirty or stagnant water to remain in the sponge.
